Jim Denaro is resident in the Washington, DC office and focuses his practice on strategic patent prosecution, counseling, and patent litigation. Jim is a registered patent attorney and has experience in information security, communications, software, and computer engineering.

Jim has successfully prosecuted patents for many Fortune 100 companies in a wide range of technologies. He handles all aspects of patent prosecution, and has experience representing applicants at the Board of Appeals at the Patent Office and conducting interviews with patent examiners.

Jim also regularly handles adversarial matters. He has substantial experience developing legal strategies for asserting patents and defending allegations of infringement. Jim has successfully represented major corporations in patent litigation and has developed winning litigation strategies. He has devised technical tests for proving infringement and successfully applied prior art to challenge patent validity, including leveraging the reexamination process. He has also represented companies in responding to demand letters from patent owners.

Jim has particular expertise in information security and cybersecurity technologies, and is a frequent speaker and writer on the subject of intellectual property issues in information security. Jim has experience in information security technologies for securing networks and data, methods for preventing SQL injection and buffer overflows, symmetric and asymmetric cryptography, and anti-spam filtering. He also has experience in wireless protocols and devices, VOIP protocols and systems, optical data storage, ASIC design, financial products, and business methods.

Jim has completed professional coursework at MIT and Stanford in advanced computer security and cryptography. He also holds current technical certifications in information security from the Cloud Security Alliance and Cisco Systems, and has passed the CISSP examination (pending certification).

Jim is a registered patent attorney and is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, California, Maryland, and Virginia.
